A wedding is for a day, a
marriage is for a lifetime.
Since
almost 3 in 4 marriages are performed by clergy, we believe our
pastors, ministers, and churches are in a unique position to
positively affect marriage and family life in our community. We also
believe (and research supports) that engaged couples who participate
in thorough premarital preparation have a better opportunity for
healthy, successful marriages.
Therefore, we are
asking churches in our community to adopt a marriage policy that
strongly encourages every couple who plans to be married in that
church to participate in a premarital preparation course modeled
along the following guidelines:
Complete
a pre-marital
education course
a
minimum of four
months before the wedding
At
least eight hours of counseling utilizing Scripture and a premarital
inventory or
other structured curriculum
Teaching
biblical doctrines on marriage, morality, and divorce
Encouraging
couples to memorize key versus on marriage and to implement them in
their relationship
Please
help us cover the Shoals with Healthy Marriage Churches! To
find out how your church can be involved, please call 760-5825 or
766-6610 or email
info@ShoalsHMC.org. A list of current members can be
found here (I need a list of participating churches - email them
to jim@expertPCAdvice.com.)
